We've used Pisces a fair bit in the past, both eaten in (with a nice bottle of white) and had several take-aways. We've always been impressed, it's a bit pricey but we don't mind paying a bit extra for good quality, so haven't gone elsewhere.
Tonight was a different 'kettle of fish' (pardon the pun) however, we were surprised to find really greasy soggy chips and greasy batter on the fish & fishcake. The grease residue was very evident on the card packaging too. Basically the oil in the fryers is in desperate need of changing for new stuff, old, 'worn out' cooking oil does this to food.
Let's hope it really is a one-off and that they're not cutting costs by not keeping their frying oil 'up to scratch'. We've so often seen food places start off well, only to rest on their laurels or get 'greedy' & cut corners..... Please Pisces, don't go down that route.
Went for lunch last Saturday, had to go back today to show my dad what a lovely fresh and cheap meal they serve there. Dad was as impressed as my husband and i. Will be going again very soon
Well, yes, the sit down eats was good and cooked fresh, the service was very polite and smiling, but my girlfriend was a bit disconcerted by the amount of fruit flies buzzing about the seated area.
Don't think they're doing anything different. The "chip-ability" of potatoes varies through the year. You're right - but it tells me that they're buying & chipping their spuds, rather than getting in frozen ready-mades.
Remember the quality of the fish, the quality of the batter, & the quality of the service. They still get 20 out of 10, in my book. No - I'm NOT employed by them!

Okay, okay... went there again last night and they were back up there with fantastic chips.
Excellent, although chips have worryingly not been so good recently so only 4 stars.

Excellent quality fish and chips. The fish is always cooked fresh for you. Highly recommended.
Terrific quality - good value - lovely staff ... and pretty damn good wine if you eat in.
Some of the best fish and chips I have ever tasted around these parts! (Without having to venture out to the Kent coast!)
