Lecture by Prue Dobson for the Kingston & District Branch of the Embroiderer's Guild.
From City and Guilds to a textile degree at Norwich School of Art and Design, Prue's work has constantly evolved, studying the cultural significance of textiles, and more recently experimenting in natural dyes and making paper from plants. Prue will also talk about the textiles she has collected during her extensive travels.

This will be an introductory session to indigo dyeing, including sources of indigo and setting up a vat. There will also be a demonstration of various resist methods, with samples and the opportunity to experiment for yourself.

Acclaimed multi-racial youth company MeWe present a workshop performance of their new play focusing attention on issues surrounding the abolition of the Transatlantic slave trade 200 years ago. Olaudah Equiano (c1745-1797), was a former slave, writer and campaigner. The play links both historic and contemporary action and highlights the impact of the legacy of slavery on young people today.
A demonstration of portrait painting in oils by well-known local artist Nick Ashton. The model will be chosen from the audience.
