This is a great site, knowhere lists all towns in UK and Ireland. Surbiton gets reasonable treatment. anyone can add comments.

Crazy place

Choices Choices Choices!

Hi All,

I am considering joining one of those ?health club? type places in Surbiton and wondered if anyone here had any experience of them.

As far as I can see there are two main ones ? The Globe _ which is a YMCA, very plush, not too frightening with muscle bound blokes waiting to laugh as I make a twit of myself on those ?go nowhere bikes? and the other one on Portsmouth road ? I think it?s called Charters or Chapters _ again very plush and quite friendly but Very Very Expensive.

Charters / Chapters has a pool where as the Globe does not, although I?m not sure that justifies the expense.

Merry Christmas

Hi All,

You?re a quiet lot, but Merry Christmas all the same.

I moved into my flat in Portsmouth Road last week and so feel much more at place posting here.

Hope we are in for a busy 2000 (list wise that is).

All the best.

Tim

Hello everyone

It feels like I signed up to this list an age ago. It's great that it has now woken up. I think the fact there is a discussion list about Surbiton, shows how much it has probably changed Denise!

When I first moved to Surbiton from Plymouth five years ago I lived in St. Andrews' Square and then lived on the Upper Brighton rd for a while. I now live in Long Ditton.

I moved to the area because I got a job in Esher. I was due to move into the Kingston YMCA for a short while, whilst I found accomodation. I have to admit that I was rather disconcerted when I discoved that the *Kingston* YMCA is not in Kingston at all, but in Surbiton. As I had spent the previous month or so telling all my friends that I was moving to Kingston. (But as the rail link to Esher is better, it worked out for the best). I'm ashamed to admit my (totally unfounded) pre-conceptions included: Terry & June, The Good Life, Twin Sets.

SURBITON...

Hi folks ...

Speaking as an exile down in sunny (?) Spain I loved getting the photographs of Surbiton station. It confirms we did the right thing to emigrate to sunnier climes. No matter what happy memories anyone has of Surbiton and district nobody can quarrel with the fact that the Station has nothing over the mountains and the sea in Andalucia.

Thanks Malcolm for posting the pictures. I appreciate my copy very much.

Hello from new member... Breaking the silence...

There does not seem to be much activity in this list but being the optomist that I am here goes.

I am moving to Surbiton next week (from Guildford) looking foreward to a better rail connection, good pubs and a shorter drive to work in Croydon.

There seems to be 10 people on the list so how about introducing yourselves, tell me something that I didn't kow about Surbiton or something.

My main perceptions of it so far come from "Stella Street" and I hope to move in near to Michael Cane <g>.

Hope to hear from someone soon....

A DEAFENING SILENCE...

I joined the List a few weeks ago with great interest... nothing or nobody has made contact. Is it a sort of natural lull, or has the List died and nobody told me or what has happened.

Obviously the members must have something to do with Surbiton, its not the sort of place one travels thousands of miles to visit. I used to work there, I passed through it, visited it and all that sort of thing. I used to live in Esher.
