Pizza chain hopes to open new takeaway in Surbiton

There is already a proliferation of pizza purveyors in Surbiton, but another chain thinks it has what it takes to survive in the area.

Basilico, which has shops in Canary Wharf, Islington, and Tower Bridge, wants to open a new takeaway in the Woodland Cars site in Central Parade. One of its more decadent toppings includes slices of roast beef with truffle oil. The showroom space is just yards from the Pizza Express restaurant.

Village Pizza runs a shop around the corner in Claremont Rd, and Papa John’s is located in Victoria Road. A report submitted by Cunnane Town Planning said no jobs will be lost from Woodland Cars, which would continue to operate from the back of the building if planning permission was granted. Six full-time jobs, and 14 part-time roles, would be created by the new takeaway, Cunnane said. A previous application was refused in March over concerns about the design of a new shopfront, and of a vent for smoke from a wood oven. Residents are being consulted on the plans.
