A Surbiton man who used hidden cameras to spy on women for years has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Paul Rasey, 56, hid the cameras in coat hooks to film his unsuspecting two victims, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard. Rasey also admitted possessing an extreme pornographic image of a woman, not one of his victims, having sex with an animal. Martyn Meadows, defending, described his client as a “sad, pathetic, lonely gentleman of a certain age”. Rasey, who entered court on crutches, was the main carer for his elderly mother, Mr Meadows said.
Sentencing Rasey to a total of seven months in prison, suspended for two years, district judge Kenneth Grant said he installed the cameras “with some determination and sophistication”. Rasey, who pleaded guilty to voyeurism and possession of extreme pornographic material last December, was also ordered to pay £85 costs, plus £200 in compensation to the first victim and £40 to the second. He must also sign the sex offenders register and visit Kingston police station as part of a notification requirement for seven years. The court ordered the police to try to return sentimental images also seized by police to Rasey.
Outside court, Mr Meadows said Rasey would not comment.
