Surbiton's dancing tea lady given the cold shoulder by Simon Cowell

The 10ft-tall dancing tea lady known for showcasing her moves at the Surbiton Festival looked to kick-start her journey to fame this weekend, only to be scuppered by an unimpressed Simon Cowell.

Bridie, who dances on stilts while pushing her tea trolley, appeared on the popular ITV variety show Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday to prove her skills to the show’s millions of viewers. But the 45-year-old was met with bemusement by celebrity judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon – who all “buzzed” her off stage before she could even finish her act.

Bridie left the stage before she could hear the judges’ comments. Bridie is best known in the borough for her appearances at the Surbiton Festival, an annual carnival stretching over two weeks celebrating everything weird and wonderful from the town.

The eventual winner of the annual talent show goes on to perform for the queen at the Royal Variety Performance and receive £250,000. In the show’s opening week, 43-year-old Worcester Park impressionist Darren Altman wowed the judges as he mimicked hosts Ant and Dec, David Attenborough and chef Gordon Ramsey.
