Daytime raids carried out on suspected sex traffickers

A home in Surbiton was raided last week as an operation was carried out targeting a criminal gang of suspected sex traffickers.

The UK Border Agency made nine arrests as they undertook 'one of the biggest operations of its kind' last Thursday, at addresses around the South and East of England.

Officers raided the homes simultaneously at 1.30pm, including the one in Surbiton where they arrested 38 year old Kun Yi HE, who was subsequently charged with conspiring to keep brothels.

Three others have also been charged with conspiring to keep brothels and have been remanded in custody until Thursday, October 6.

Five Chinese nationals were arrested and charged for assisting in the management of brothels.

One of the largest brothel raids was carried out across the river in Sunbury.

Five suspected sex workers who were found during the raids are now being cared for and assessed at a specialist centre.

A 37 year old woman was arrested later that day in Chessington on suspicion of conspiring to control prostitution for gain, trafficking and money laundering, but was bailed as the investigation continues.

About 150 officers from the UK border Agency and eight other police forces were involved in the operation.
